Gitty is an eleven-year-old girl who lives on a farm with her parents and psychotic older brother. Her father warns her to keep away from an old grain silo and this is because there's a man being kept prisoner there. He's from the bank and he's been foreclosing farms in the area. Gitty begins to visit him on a regular basis, bringing him food and books, and they become friends.
Once Gitty finds out that they are going to do something more permanent to him she finally tries to release him, which causes a few problems. While all this is happening the girl has visions of a Walt-Disney type villainess riding horseback in the countryside, who is supposed to represent a threat.
It's an interesting movie but could have been so much better by either eliminating the Fairytale like scenes or making it a lot more magical. As it stands, the "supernatural" aspect doesn't really add anything to the movie. It is a good character study of a family that falls apart because of the choices it makes.
