"Antibodies" is a German serial killer, psycho-crime drama that I've been anticipating for a while but hadn't gotten around to seeing until recently. To my dismay, the film was a far cry from the rabid hype I had heard and I was left immensely disappointed...
The overly complex premise can easily be summed up as: a complete "Silence of the Lambs" rip-off. A small village cop is called into the big city to help in the case of a young girl who was murdered by an incarcerated madman. Turns out the killer wasn't the one who killed the girl (though he openly admits involvement in 13 other child murders), so it's up to the strait-laced country cop to get into the killer's head and find out who slit this small girl's vag up into her pelvis and jerked off in her panties...
While not entirely incompetent, "Antibodies" doesn't stray far from the typical Hollywood inspired serial killer brain-busters like "Silence of the Lambs" and "Se7en". It goes about including biblical slants that actually added a bit of stimulating charm to the whole concept. The characters - though considerably distant from the decisive personification of the child killing psychopath, which was conveyed in a far more abrasive and disturbing manner than most films of this kind.
Aside from these perks, the film just didn't strike me as anything that really 'stands out' as something especially extraordinarily memorable. It stretched it's premise as far as it could and, while proving itself to be averagely intelligent, lacked enough of a 'punch' to really separate from the more noteworthy serial killer films that came before...
