Whenever I get indie stuff in the mail to review these days I get nervous and apprehensive, mainly because they usually suck ass and I don't even bother to write the review. Anubis surprised me in that it was fun and a good movie, combing ancient Egyptian mythology with a slasher in the woods feel that works very well. The creature design and the make-up job on Anubis once brought down to earth impressed me and I thought this thing looked awesome for the budget. The plot is simple and there's enough action, death, and gore to keep you interested. Some of the dialog had me rolling as did the wanna-be witch who brings the god of the dead down to earth. Don't get me wrong, this movie does have a few flaws and it's on a budget, but it's well acted and the monster helped me overlook anything else. I personally would have liked hearing a more Egyptian score or a few songs by Nile thrown in, but that's just me. Overall, Anubis delivers a good time by bringing forth the little used mythos of Egypt in a slasher film setting. Good stuff!
