Aquaman (2006)

Aquaman (2006) In the first five minutes of this unaired tv pilot, a blonde woman named Atlanna is flying a plane, with her young son aboard, over the Bermuda Triangle. She is on the radio with her coastguard husband when a ray of light shoots out of the water and clips the plane. It goes down and they are attacked by some ferocious, alien-looking sea creature. The boy, Arthur, escapes and is rescued by a pod of whales, which eludes that he can communicate with sea creatures.

The show then skips to over ten years later and Arthur (Justin Hartley of SMALLVILLE, GEMINI DIVISION) is working at a Marina, saving captured dolphins in his spare time. We're introduced to a young woman who is his business partner (yacht tours), his adoptive father (Lou Diamond Phillips) and McCaffery (Ving Rhames), this mysterious guy who lives at the local lighthouse and may have answers to Arthur's origins.

In a parallel story a man washes up, wearing the same type of seahorse necklace Arthur wears, and the FBI knows that this is one of the people who had disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle over sixty years before. He's from Atlantis and warns Arthur, who he calls Orin, that they are after him. "They" turns out to be this siren who can take the appearance of a beautiful blonde. She reverts to her true form, this shark/s quid-like mermaid, and she and Arthur fight. McCaffery comes in for a rescue and reveals that Arthur is a prince Atlantis and that his mother was its Queen, exiled to the surface world. His father was killed long ago, getting them away to safety. Now, the Atlanteans want to capture Arthur and bring him back so they can execute him.

This forty-five minute show crams in a lot of info, but it works. This was a good pilot and would have made an intriguing series.
