The premise of this UK television series is that a detective from the present day is transported to the early 1980's after she is shot in the head. There, she is part of a police department and must solve crimes that may determine if she can return to her own time period. If she dies from her wound she'll be trapped in this world.
The first season was not as good as LIFE ON MARS and this second season is not as good as the first season of ASHES TO ASHES. I think it's because the main character Alex Drake knows she's in a coma and has to wake up. There's none of that guessing Sam Tyler did in LIFE ON MARS. She wants to get back to her daughter and there's another person from the future who wants her to help him. She believes he is corrupt and will chance contaminating herself.
The more interesting story lines belong to the supporting characters. Gene Hunt and Alex seem to have a mutual attraction which surprisingly works, Chris Skelton, the youngest on the team, is getting married to a co-worker and Ray Carling becomes less of an asshole after going through some shit. However, the last episode is totally open ended. Alex wakes up from her coma only to be harassed by Gene Hunt, who she sees on the television talking to her, telling her that she must come back.
