This is a 'remake' pretty much in name only, baring little resemblance to the Carpenter classic movie. Instead of a gang invading a closing precinct it's a group of crooked cops who want to silence one of the prisoners-(Lawrence Fishbourne) and they have to kill everyone else who is there. One of the weirdest things about it is that it's supposed to take place in Detroit but the geography is really messed up. A good portion of the battle happens at the police station but there's a point when they leave and enter this nearby pine forest. And in one particular shot, high in the forest, we can see the skyline of Detroit in the background. I can tell you that there are no forests remotely near Detroit, much less pine forests. The city is surrounded by crowded suburbs. I suppose none of the filmmakers have ever been to 'The Motor City'.This new ASSAULT isn't bad, but it is a typical Hollywood 'shoot 'em up' action movie.
