This team-up of the DC superheroes far exceeded my expectations. Some time has passed since the first Superman movie and we quickly learn that Clark Kent has established himself at the Daily Planet and is living with Lois Lane, who knows his true identity. We're first introduced to Bruce Wayne when he's in Metropolis, in a scene that takes during place during Superman and General Zod's battle in the first film. He's witness to all the destruction and collateral damage done in that battle-and he sees that Superman could be the world's worse threat.
So, over a year later, he's started to put together a plan to stop the Man of Steel, by building an armored, Iron-Man like suit and arming it with pieces of Kryptonite, which will take away Superman's powers. In the meantime, he continues fighting crime as The Batman, who is viewed as a criminal by the authorities. This is a very different version of Batman than seen in the Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan series. This Batman fights any way he can, with smoke bombs, artillery and he even brands criminals in their flesh with a bat-shaped iron. He's older, and much more jaded. Also thrown into the mix is the mysterious Diana Prince, who reveals herself as Wonder Woman during the climactic battle with the creature known as Doomsday. Doomsday is created from the corpse of Zod by the truly insane Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg). We also learn of other super humans, who we see briefly, such as Aquaman and The Flash.
While DAWN OF JUSTICE is not as fun as THE AVENGERS movies, it is faithful to the source material, combining storylines from "The New 52" and "The Death of Superman". I thought Eisenberg was great and appropriately of the top as Luthor and it made me really look forward to the upcoming WONDER WOMAN movie. I enjoyed BATMAN vs. SUPERMAN far far more than THE MAN OF STEEL. Recommended.
