The story here is about two brothers in the Navy. Stone Hopper (alexander Skarsgard of True Blood) is the older one and plays by the rules while his younger brother, Alex (Taylor Kitsch of John Carter) is a screw up. But Alex is dating Sam, the blonde daughter of Admiral Shane (Liam Neeson), and the Admiral does not like him much. While the two brothers are off on ships during training maneuvers, alien ships appear. The space ships set up a force field around the Navy ships and a battle begins. It's all because of a message earth sent out years before, to an earth-like planet. These aliens have answered and want a battle.
This isn't a horrible movie but it is a big empty one, with special effects out of Transformers. I did think it cool how the aliens looked, very human-like, with cat eyes and two thumbs.
