This Robert Zemeckis epic is a lot better than I thought it would be. The first forty-five minutes or so seemed like a re-run to me, as to be expected from seeing several other BEOWULF (BEOWULF & GRENDEL, GRENDEL, et cetera) movies this past year, so the last half of the picture is what's interesting. Beowulf, the ultimate warrior, has killed Grendel and supposedly slain his mother, but it turns out he's mated with her instead, to produce a ferocious dragon that terrorizes his kingdom when he's much older.
At first I found the computer animation a bit strange but you get used to it. The monsters, though, are the thing to watch. Grendel is a nasty looking creature, though a bit pitiful like Gollum in THE LORD OF THE RINGS movies. The cyclopean sea serpents were my favorite.
