Scientists experimenting with an atom collider in St. Louis end up opening a "black hole", which starts to consume everything. If that wasn't bad enough an ethereal creature, which sort of reminded me of the ID creature from FORBIDDEN PLANET, escapes and starts consuming electricity.
Kristy Swanson is one of the scientists, who basically just talks, and Judd Nelson is her love-interest, who was recently dismissed from that business, only to be brought in by the military to stop this catastrophe. David Selby portrays the military guy in charge, though he's a bit too old for the part.
While the story is goofy and plays like a 1950's "Sci-Fi" movie, the special effects are good and there's some creative use of stock disaster footage.
Directed by Tibor Takacs (THE GATE, I, MADMAN)
