Heather Graham (BOWFINGER) portrays a Catholic schoolteacher in New York City who goes to a fertility clinic with her husband. This is in Upstate New York, where the modern looking facility looks out of place with the rural surroundings. They stay at a cabin provided by the place-and like it so much that they decide to rent out a house when their apartment is burglarized in the City. Everything that happens to them, including her writer husband landing a huge advance for his next novel, is no coincidence. What they don't know is that the clinic is run by people who worship the devil-and they want to bring him into this world. They do manage to make Graham pregnant-but they've also injected Satan's DNA in the mix as well. How they got the blood is explained by one of the characters when he tells the story about an old painting he has, which depicts a Saint slaying Lucifer. The slaying of 'the light' led to the Dark Ages. What they wish to do with his resurrection is bring 'A New Dawn' (The name of their organization) to mankind. There's also an Italian priest who is stalking Graham, and even though he's supposedly on the good side of things he's definitely not a good guy. BLESSED is a lot like ROSEMARY'S BABY-and the ending is like THE ASTRONAUT'S WIFE, so not a lot of originality. Production values are good. Produced by Andrew Stevens (THE FURY, TERROR WITHIN 1 & 2), whose mother, Stella Stevens (THE MANITOU) has a cameo.
