The movie starts off with an Asian guy running frantically through the tropical jungle yelling "It's coming!". Soon after "It" is caught in a big bamboo cage. Whle the white leader of the group calls back to camp, telling Professor Hamilton (F. Murray Abraham) that they finally caught one of the creatures, it escapes. When the professor gets there the only thing that remains of the hunting part are gobs of bloody flesh. And the only thing we see of the killer ape is a fake-looking computer animation of a gorilla with sharp teeth.
Then, the movie goes to a group of young asshole anthropologists who do a lot of bad acting. They have names like Seth, consist of the stereotypes of the nerd, the blonde, and the jock, and are more interested in screwing around than doing their job, which is to rendezvous with Professor Hamilton in this location somewhere in Asia. After they are dropped off in the middle of the jungle and watch the small plane depart, one of them says "I think I'm having second thoughts". Coincidently, I was also having second--and maybe third thoughts about continuing to watch this movie...
The group sets up camp and in the morning the crazy Professor Hamilton shows up and tells them they are going to a hidden valley, where strange creatures live. He has his evil looking female assistant confiscate all of their cell phones because he doesn't want anyone leaking this information to the outside world. Once in the valley they set up camp--and find a huge ape skull (this thing is like two feet across). Somehow they are supposed to capture one of these creatures--and eventually almost all of them are killed. In the end, when the last two survivors hide in a cave, we finally see a full shot of the "Blood Monkey", which is not so impressive.
So far this is the worst of the "Maneater" series of movies I've seen but then again I've unfortunately only seen a few of them.
