Vicki Nelson (Christina Cox) is a former police detective, now private investigator, due to her degenerative eye disease. In the first episode she's clearly having trouble seeing, bumping into things and wearing thick glasses. However, this is seemingly forgotten in the rest of the season, as it doesn't seem to be an issue.
Her first introduction the supernatural involves a guy who is killing people by draining them of blood, though this turns out to be a demon, rather than a vampire, summoned by a nebish named Norman. Also investigating these murders is Henry Fitzroy, who is a vampire. He no longer kills people in order to feed and is a "good guy". He befriends Vicki and together they stop Norman and the demon from unleashing their boss, Azaroth, onto the world. However, Vicki becomes marked on her wrist by this strange tattoo, which has something to do with the supernatural.
In later episodes they encounter a voodoo priestess creating zombies, a vengeful ghost, a Windigo, Medusa, a sports contest called the Necrodome which pitts zombies against one another, and Julian Sands as an evil vampire hunter. But why is she all of a sudden investigating supernatural cases? It's explained that because she's marked by a demon she has now become a magnet for the supernatural.
Although the show features a vampire investigating cases in Toronto, it's nothing whatsoever like FOREVER KNIGHT. And it's far better than that recent Network show MOONLIGHT. Henry Fitzroy (Kyle Schmid of JOYRIDE 2) is an interesting vampire. He looks like he's 18-20 years old and writes/illustrates horror graphic novels for a "living". There's also a good chemistry between him and the Vicki Nelson character, which greatly helps the series. The most annoying character and weakest actress is Gina Holden (Flash Gordon) as secretary/goth girl Coreen.
