A group of teenaged boys are messing around in front of an infamous house where a recluse lives. Two of them are brothers. The younger brother's cell phone is thrown into the upper window, so he goes in the filthy abode and sees that something has been living up there in the attack, eating dead animals. He unwittingly unleashes the creature, which looks like a rotted zombie. The boys' father is the town's sheriff (Eddie McClintock of Warehouse 13) investigates the first murder, which happens to be of that recluse. The monster had killed him--and is now killing people in the area. But why? What is it?
It turns out that the creature is Cain from the bible and it's the job of a sort of cult to keep him imprisoned so he doesn't go on killing sprees. The story is engaging enough, with the relationship between the sheriff and his female deputy, and his two sons--and the monster has an interesting back-story. Recommended.
