This takes place in a modern world in which Orcs, Elves and other mythological creatures exist. The Orcs, because they made a decision thousands of years ago to side with Evil, are treated as lower class citizens while the Elves control much of the wealth.
Daryl Ward (Will Smith) is a police officer who's been partnered with the first Orc, Nick Jakoby, to become a police officer. At first he doesn't want anything to do with him, but as they investigate a case involving a magical wand that grants wishes, they learn to work together and eventually become friends. Basically, this whole scenario is like the movie ALIENATION, only with magic instead of aliens. They discover that there are some evil elves, led by Leilah (Noomi Rapace) who want to bring the Dark One back to this world, and that only one in a million humans may be a "Bright"-someone who can handle a wand without being instantly disintegrated. I found this whole scenario fascinating, especially when we see glimpses of other creatures, like fairies (equated to squirrels) and police centaurs, and wish a bit more time was spent on these things rather than the overlong action sequences and shoot-outs. I liked it and it would be a good pilot for a Netflix series....
