I had to see this since it was directed by Don Coscarelli, inventor of the godly Phantasm! Well, it was funny as hell and enjoyable, though not scary, gory, or as good as I'd hoped for. I guess I had very high expectations; the hype behind this was huge from fans and the 'industry' alike. While Bubba don't quite make the hype, it does offer a fun 90-minute trip that will leaving you smiling for hours. Bruce Campbell plays an ageing Elvis, or is he just a senile impersonator, who runs into trouble when an evil mummy shows up to reek havoc on the old age home he now lives in. Battling both obesity and erectile dysfunction, Elvis now has to look out for this Egyptian cat who sucks peoples souls out through their anus. Luckily, Elvis has JFK to help him, who has now been dyed black and brain replaced with a bag of sand. You can see where this is all goin', right? It's as fucked up as it sounds, trust me, and there's some classic dialog in here to. The FX could have been better, but overall Bubba is cool with me. Bruce really delivers here and honestly if it wasn't for his performance this movie would have been way worse. It won't ever rank as classic as Phantasm, but Ho Tep ain't bad.
