Wow, find it hard to believe we hadn't posted this on the site before. I could have sworn I wrote a review once; possibly it was erased when we had server problems years ago, who knows, but it NEEDS to be on here. Why? Well, The Burning is one of the great 80's Slasher classics and one of the best of the summer camp slaughter genre ever. Once you see it, you'll never forget the Cropsy maniac. To me, this closely rivals Friday the 13th for top honors as summer camp slaughter king, the big four being those two plus Mad Man and Sleepaway Camp. Is there anyone that hasn't seen this yet? If so, why??? It is a must have, and I believe a long, long, awaited uncut DVD release is close at hand finally. A summer camp prank gone wrong results in a burned and pissed off monster that exacts bloody revenge years later on the kids at another camp. Tom Savini does the gore here and it's very impressive. The music by Rick Wakeman makes the movie creepier than you'd expect and the whole thing just works right. This has all the goodies you'd expect from 1981 in spades. Look for Ratner from Ridgemont High playing a pervert who likes to watch, but gets to see too much at one point. Young girls with no bras, sharp pruning shears, and blood make The Burning an 80's gem and slasher Hall of Famer.
