Man this movie was hyped for me, I failed to see it in theaters and my friends let me know I missed a good horror movie. Or did I? I shy away from the critic title, it's one of the reasons I review here at Buried there fans first. I know I like movies that other people do not and vice versa, hey there opinions right! I rented Cabin In The Woods expecting a fresh new thriller, a game changer, so lets' dive in. Cabin is directed by Drew Goddard and produced by Joss Whedon holy shit that's a all-star team right there. Drew is best known for writing (Buffy, Angel, Lost) but here he co-writes and directs. Alright the movie stars Kristin Connelly a relative newcomer as protagonist Dana, and the lovely im in every movie Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Avengers) Fran Kanz (Donnie Darko) and my personal favorite Richard Jenkins ( Step Brothers, Let Me In). A group of college students decide to go to a cabin for a little retreat all the while a secret corporation has been monitoring them and feeding them drugs to lower awareness. The scenes with Jenkins and the corp guys betting and setting things up are funny and well written, you are truly kinda guessing in the beginning as you know peril is coming I enjoyed that. The attention to detail I liked one man says they put chemicals in the girls hair dye that affects her and they have switches that control toxic mists and such. It is no Spoiler that the group is running into a trap and that evil men are controlling everything. One such group member Marty (Kanz) who by the way is the worst actor at playing stoned I have ever seen, starts to think they are puppets and such. So why, What is the point? Are there rich millionaires behind this ala Hostel, No there are rules baby and the group even has to pick unknowing which monster the corp will unleash to ravage them. Now if your lost do not be watch the film and it comes together quickly. Anyway they get zombies ah yes zombies rise out of the ground and do a little cutting and eating. The gore and deaths in this movie are cool and it does not lack, the comedy also I thought in scenes it worked well. Where this movie failed for me is execution the story was too big and to me was not done quite right. I thought to use zombies as the first killers was weak as you find out that they are storing a shit load of every nightmare available in the "jail". The scenes before the climax are good, the stoner (Kanz) actually acts amazing once he is not stoned. The finale and reveal of why there doing all of this was a huge stretch for me and did not fit well, having said that I did enjoy this movie. Cabin In The Woods is a solid horror film that I think will be enjoyed more as it ages. If you like Thirteen Ghosts, Evil Dead, Repo give this movie a shot you will not be let down.
