This is a poor sequel on every level. At the beginning, during the pursuit to save the victim of a serial killer, a voice-over explains that the FBI sometimes utilizes the talents of people with psychic ability. This time the woman is named Maya & she vaguely fits the description of Jennifer Lopez (star of the original movie).
She is after an elusive serial killer who kills his victims--and brings them back to life--via electric shock. It's revealed that Maya is the only victim of his to ever survive--and that dying so many times gave her the ability to go into other people's dreams. She was killed six times, which is goofy, because it's miraculous if someone is brought back once, contrary to the fiction of the movies.
The dream visuals are poor, reminding me of a movie from the 80's, and there is plenty of cliche dialogue such as when the deputy says "We went over this crime scene with a fine toothed comb". There's even the immediate antagonism between the FBI and the small town sheriff (Chris Bruno of THE DEAD ZONE TV series), a cliche if there ever was one.
In fact, this all seems like a very weak episode of THE DEAD ZONE as it has Chris Bruno again as a sheriff and Frank Whaley, who was in one season of that same show, as his deputy. The only thing missing is Anthony Michael Hall as John Smith--and a good story.
