This adaptation of the Roald Dahl book isn't bad, and Johnny Depp adds his own brand peculiarity to the interpretation of Willy Wonka. The movie spends very little time on the interaction between Charlie and his grandfather, instead concentrating on the origins of Wonka and his chocolate factory. In a flashback sequence we're even shown where the Oompa Loompas come from. The best things about this movie are the special effects, the musical dance sequences of the Oompa Loompas (which will have you chuckling), and the nut room with the squirrels. Still, WILLY WONKA AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, starring Gene Wilder, is undeniably better.
