I actually quite enjoyed "The Clown Murders", considering a general antipathy from viewers who are put-off by the fact that the cover art and title hardly refer to the film's plot in the least. This is NOT in any way a slasher film or even a straight-forward "horror" film, but more of a suspense-melodrama type of execution.
Four friends decide to kidnap their friend's chick on Halloween night as a prank. They take their captive out into the country and lock her in a room before soon discovering that the cops are looking for them. They panic and are eventually at each other's throats...
Around the last third of the movie, we find out that someone dressed as a clown is stalking them and a body count begins to build in the very last ten minutes. In all, I did kinda like this one for some reason. The performances were pretty amusing - including John Candy in one of his first credited roles as the fat, timid loser of the group who is constantly the butt of fat jokes. The atmosphere is dark and a bit creepy at times - making for a good Halloween time film. If you're expecting a slasher film, you WILL be bored with "The Clown Murders" though I'd say it's a watchable crime 'caper' suspense flick. Mildly recommended.
