Susan Wheeler (Lauren Ambrose of Six Feet Under, Torchwood: Miracle Day) is a new medical student at a hospital her grandfather helped establish. Quickly she discovers there's a conspiracy that puts select patients in comas. She isn't sure who she can trust.
There's love interest Dr. Bellows, who is having a fling with an older woman, Dr. Agnetta Lindquist (Geena Davis doing a creepy clenched-jaw delivery). We're not sure about Dr Howard Stark (James Woods) or Professor Hillside (Richard Dreyfuss), who may or may not have something to do with the comas. Because the original novel was written over thirty-years ago, the script updates what the bodies are being used for. It's creepy and the effects work well. However, this two part made-for-television movie is disappointing, as it doesn't have quite the same affect as the Robin Cook book or original movie version, probably because the idea has been done so many times that it's almost a genre cliche.
