Interesting serial killer movie, casting Tom Berenger as a drifter who gets women to fall in love with him and then kills them. After he kills a young woman in the opening scene he changes his appearance and starts hitching. One of the drivers who picks him up is a college professor on his way to a writing retreat at a light house--and he kills the man and assumes his identity. He's fairly adept at blending in to the small fishing town community and soon becomes interested in a local woman. Her brother, coincidently, is working with him during the summer at that lighthouse. Berenger starts infiltrating their lives, assuming the role that the sibling's deceased father played in their upbring...he beat the son and had sex with the daughter....and all this familiarity is bringing back a lot of not so good feelings. Even Berenger is having flashbacks--revealing why he kills people. Although the movie follows the typical serial killer plot there are decent performances and it effectively reveals the psychology of all the dysfunctional characters.
