If Schlitz was the beer that made Milwaukee famous, then Jeffrey Dahmer was the serial killer that made it infamous. First Look Home Entertainment's new three film serial killer box set has just hit store shelves and it features some great entertainment, Dahmer isn't what you would call a gore-fest, but it's very disturbing in other ways. What got me was all the boy-on-boy butt banging in this thing, if you suffer from homophobia, this will make your Depends feel a bit fuller. A lot of the story is done via flashbacks of his past, giving you a glimpse into his lonely, disturbed psyche along the way. It seems in this movie that his repressed sexuality causes all the trouble and he was having some real problems even as a teen. The scene where his father nearly discovers a severed head in a locked chemistry kit box sums up the film pretty well... secrets always locked away. The movie takes more of an intelligent approach than the low road you'd expect. Still, there's a body in the bedroom and plenty of creepiness throughout. The subtlety here actually helps the film. The last twenty minutes or so with Dahmer and his last victim, who escapes, keep you watching wondering exactly what will happen. The things he confesses to let you know what kind of person he truly was, he has a few issues. At one point, Jeff admits to being a pervert, an exhibitionist, a masturbator, and a killer, guess three out of four ain't bad if you ask me. The feel here is dead-on, the portrait of a lonely, repressed, chocolate-factory worker turned serial killer makes for some fine viewing.
