I never saw the original Asian version of this film, so I was not totally sure what to expect. I dig Jennifer Connelly, so I was looking forward to seeing this adaptation. The story revolves around a newly separated mother and her daughter as they move to a crappy apartment on the very rainy Roosevelt Island. The mother carries a depression with her that stems from her own mother's hatred of the burden that she was perceived to be as a child. Because of this and her recent separation, she is very protective of her own daughter, over protective at times. The apartment complex is in disrepair and their ceiling is leaking from activity in the apartment above theirs. Her daughter appears to have developed an imaginary friend once they settle in to their new digs, but there is more to her friend than they know. I thought this was a very well done remake. It was very moody and dark, and with the constant rain, you could almost feel the despair of their lives. Pick this one up and give it a view.
