It's six months after the zombie apocalypse and Mike and Kim have survived in a secluded cabin. He goes out during the day to scavenge food while she stays inside and slowly unravels. In the opening scene they are shown with a group of friends--and through a series of flashbacks throughout the movie we find out what happened to them.
It's not an easy thing to make a movie about two characters trapped in one room interesting yet DEAD WITHIN keeps you hooked and on edge. I also liked that they addressed something I've only seen in the DAWN OF THE DEAD remake--what about zombie babies? Of course, things don't have a happy ending as Kim begins to hallucinate. Is this all real or just in her head? Or is Mike transforming into one of the flesh-hungry creatures? DEAD WITHIN makes my top ten list of best zombie films. Highly recommended.
