Zombies are starting to walk the Earth and it's up to the Deadhunters to keep them down. In Spain, this group of zombie hunters respond to the equivalent of 911 calls, then go out and gun down the creatures. The movie starts off with this guy in sunglasses, long black hair and a trench coat driving his sports car down the streets of the city. He finally arrives at his destination, goes up to the apartment-and starts stripping. IT turns out he's the entertainment for a bachelorette party, not the main character which you immediately assume. Then there's a knocking on the door-he goes to answer-and the zombie has ripped out a few chunks out of him. The women start screaming and one of them says 'This is the worst Bachelorette party ever?' Now I knew this wasn't going to be a serious movie. There are lots of horror product placements. There's a scene in a video store when one of the Deadhunters hits a zombie in the head with a copy of Peter Jackson's BAD TASTE and another scene where we see a copy of FANGORIA. The 'homage scene' of zombies in a shopping mall is cool. Plus, there's this really weird sequence of this guy fending off two of the undead by performing the 'Dance of the Handkerchiefs', the song of which plays in the background. Lloyd Kaufman has a brief cameo as a theater goer who gets killed. The zombie makeup is very uneven-some of it is decent, especially when they are more rotted looking with the dark green makeup. But many of them look like white pancake makeup on their faces, not that well done, as if the actors did the makeup themselves. In some instances the zombies are wearing a really fake looking mask. My biggest qualm is when the Deadhunters shoot there guns and nothing comes out, nor do bullet holes appear on the zombies. Kind of like mimes with machine guns. I don't mind a movie being tongue-in-cheek, but this aspect about the movie annoyed me.On the up side, the movie is entertaining, well-shot and directed, and definitely leaves the possibility of more DEADHUNTER movies.
