This post-apocalyptic movie begins with a guy making a cell call to his wife while out on the road. They've been separated for a few weeks and he's making his way back home. But his call gets interrupted so he goes into the nearby gas station and asks if they have a phone he can use. There's the news on the television and an anchor says LA has been bombed. Then there's just static on the TV. He goes outside and sees the bombs falling--and a nuclear explosion in the distance. World War III has begun. Then, it's five years later. Everything has a washed out look to it and is covered in ash. He steals a backpack from some guy and in it is a list of survivors in a nearby town. One of them has his wife's name--Kate Johnson--and he's convinced it's really her, though that's a common name. He meets a few other guys on his journey, has to fight a few others, until he's abducted by one of the military gangs. It's then that he finally discovers if his wife is alive or not.
This low-budget movie tries to be along the lines of THE ROAD and THE BOOK OF ELI, though it has much more in common with the TV show JERICHO, albeit vaguely. The thing is, this is a boring movie. There are no mutants, no cannibals, no zombies. Just guys in army fatigues. In fact, the whole 107 minutes made me fatigued...
