It was simply a matter of time... SUB SPECIES vs A PUPPET. As soon as the movie began with fifteen minutes of footage from SUBSPECIES (which in itself featured a vampire from VAMPIRE JOURNALS, one of Full Moon's better produced movies) I knew I was going to be more than a little irritated. It did not disappoint in that regard.
DECADENT EVIL is primarily about a trio of vampire women who work at a strip club to get their victims. While this stereotype might be true in the sense that a lot of strippers are indeed vampires, I've seen this in films way too many times for it to be remotely interesting. So as soon as we're introduced to them all the action takes place within their mansion, which really saves director Charlie Band time and money in not having to find any more locations (and to shoot the 50 minutes of new footage in a few days). There's also this homunculus character that looks like a red, badly sculptured puppet. It grunts a lot and tries to go after the women. By the end of this movie I was simply shaking my head, wondering why I even wasted my time on all this.
On the dvd extras there's a "Message from Wizard Entertainment", in which Band goes on and on about how, with this new company, he'll only be working on movies he thinks the fans will enjoy (yeah, right) and that he'll be producing and directing most all of them because he cares so much (and not the fact that he can't hire any directors because no one will work for him).
But hey, it allows Charlie to continue to explore his fetish with mini-monsters, so at least someone gets something out of this.
