This fourth (?) Mick Garris/Stephen King collaboration is probably their best work to date. Ron Perlman (HELLBOY, QUEST FOR FIRE) is entertaining as the insane, demon-possessed Sheriff who is rounding up any survivors and keeping them locked up in the local jail, as spares for when his current body wears out. The entity, named TAK, was released by mine-diggers and now it's up to these people to defeat it. Tom Skerritt (ALIEN) portrays an aging, jaded author, Steven Weber (THE SHINING) gives a decent performance as his assistant, but Annabeth Gish is kind of wasted here, as it could have been anybody in that role.
