This homage to the sci-fi movies of the 1950's is hilarious. It begins with a faux documentary, about how the movie was seized by the government during the McCarthy era, when the director sold out his cast and crew as communists. The people and the children of the people who worked on the film are interviewed, including the messed up daughter of the lead actress, who is ambivalent about seeing this lost movie. Then, we see the "restored" movie. If I was just flipping through the channels and came across this I'd be convinced that it was indeed a movie from over half a century ago-- the acting and "look" of it are right on.
The premise is that the race of Martians, who are much more advanced than Earth--and also all women, wage a war and it's up to a guy who had made contact with the Martians when he was a kid to help put a stop to all this. It's all very hokey, complete with racial stereotypes and everyone chain smoking cigarettes. This is a movie Ed Wood could have easily made. DESTINATION MARS is very entertaining.
