A scientist named Thomas (Robert Redford) has scientifically proven that an afterlife exists for humans. However, two years later this has caused a rapid increase in suicides because people want a better life. Why they assume this other existence is better is never explained. His son Will (Jason Segel) is a scientist as well and goes to visit Dad at his new compound, which is run by people who tried to commit suicide. He wants to give them a new purpose. Will wants his dad to refute his findings, to stop the suicides. Instead, Thomas is on the verge of recording the death experience. He wants to record what it looks like on the other side. Along the way Will falls for suicidal woman Isla (Rooney Mara). It's a relationship you know is ill-fated.
THE DISCOVERY has a a really interesting premise but completely fails to deliver anything remotely satisfying. It has a completely flat tone to it and you simply don't care about any of the characters. It's also boring as shit. NOT recommended.
