After his father's death, Kale Brecht becomes sullen, withdrawn, and troubled... so much so that he finds himself under a court-ordered sentence of house arrest after a run in with the law. His mother, Julie, works night and day to support herself and her son, only to be met with indifference and lethargy. The walls of his house begin to close in on Kale. He becomes a voyeur as his interests turn outside the windows of his suburban home towards those of his neighbors, one of which Kale begins to suspect is a serial killer. But, are his suspicions merely the product of cabin fever and his overactive imagination? -netflix
Shia LaBeouf stars in this thriller that is very similar to Hitchcock's Rear Window, right down to the mood and suspense of the film. If you are looking for lots of gore and blood, then this one is not for you. Instead, the film relies on paranoia and suggestion to get the audience to think. The acting is fairly well done, with good performances put in by David Morse as the suspected serial killer neighbor and the rest of the supporting cast. LaBeouf plays the paranoid, bumbling teenager role to perfection, and has become one of my favorite young actors out there.
Even though the twists and turns in this flick are fairly obvious... it is still an entertaining thriller. If you are looking for a change of pace from some of the more gory horror efforts out there... this is a definite recommendation!
