A hundred or so years in the future, after a clearly devastating war, the inhabitants of a walled Chicago are divided into five different factions, based on virtues. Tris (Shailene Woodley) is born into a passive, helper faction but longs for the warrior/protector faction, which she ends up joining. However, she is a "Divergent", which means she has qualities of all the factions. This isn't good because one of the city's leaders, Jeanine (Kate Winslett) has a plan to kill off all of these Divergents she views as a threat to society. Along the way Tris becomes involved with Four (Theo James), who is also a Divergent--and she finds out her mother (Ashley Judd) is Divergent as well.
This is an interesting future movie but is too much of the HUNGER GAMES movies and I got tired of looking at Shailene Woodley, who reminds me of Woodstock from the PEANUTS cartoons!).
