This is a pretty weird one. "Dogtooth" is a dark Greek oddity about three grown siblings who have been brought up by their parents to completely fear the outside world. Rules have been put in place - such as, they are not 'able' to leave the property until their "dogtooth" (or eye teeth) falls out. The kids carry out their days making up weird little games and competitions - like huffing Chloroform, playing dead in the swimming pool, and staggering around blindfolded. Mommy and Daddy, for some reason, like to switch up the meanings of everyday words - i.e. a salt shaker is a "phone", a "zombie" is a yellow flower, a vagina is a "keyboard", etc. They have also been taught that airplanes are toys that sometimes fall from the sky, which the parents occasionally "prove" by throwing small airplane toys into the yard for the idiots to find, and that cats are the single most dangerous animal on Earth. The family's strange behavior, incestuous relationships, and crazy rituals consists of the majority of the film until things finally unravel in the last few minutes...
"Dogtooth" reminded me of Freddie Francis' "Girly" and the UK torture-oriented film "Mum & Dad", though it's safe to say that "Dogtooth" is the best fucked-up-family related film of all of them. Granted, it's a slow mover and gets a bit uncomfortable in spots, however, all of the performances are solid and brooding and the camera angles were often interesting in how they would be somwhat off-kilter. Those into bizarre shit with an 'arthouse' aesthetic should check out "Dogtooth".
