On an island off of Scotland the fish in the surrounding waters become contaminated with SOMETHING and everyone who eats them become deformed and violent.
Dr. Del Shaw (Ian Bannen) belongs to the environmental group Doomwatch and is sent to investigate. However, the people don't want his help and are protective of their own, hiding the deformed individuals. That is, until one of them attacks and almost kills him. He finds out that they've developed an accelerated form of acromegaly, in which their faces and hands become grossly enlarged. So there's all these Rondo Hatten lookalikes running around the island.
I found this to be an interesting Hammer movie and it reminded me a lot of the new show THE ELEVENTH HOUR. In fact, this movie is based on the BBC television show DOOMWATCH (1970-72).
