Dr. Stephen Strange (Peter Hooten) is a psychiatry resident whose life is changed when he meets Clea Lake, who was possessed by the evil sorceress Morgan LeFay (Jessica Walter). She temporarily took over her body to push rival sorcerer Thomas Lindmer (John Mills) over the side of a bridge--and Dr. Strange starts having dreams about this incident. You see, he's next in line to become the Sorcerer Supreme but he has to do this by his own choice. Lindmer has survived the accident and explains all this to him.
Morgan LeFay is attracted to strange and tries to coerce him into giving up his power.
Of course, things are changed around from the comic, but this made-for-television movie definitely captures the spirit of the character. I also thought those scenes that take place on the astral plane are creepy, particularly when LeFay is talking with her demon master. He's a serpentine monster with four eyes, done with stop-motion animation, and looks very similar to the demons in THE GATE.
