This is one of those movies that's painful to watch, a very dark version of AFTER HOURS, in which what happens to the character (William H. Macy) gets worse and worse.
One day Edmond decides that he doesn't want to be married anymore and admits to his wife that he's simply been going through the motions and hasn't loved her for years. So she kicks him out. He walks through the city and decides to pay for some sex-but the situations he gets himself in never work out and he's left beaten up and out of money.
Then he meets a young waitress (Julia Stiles) at a restaurant and ends up sleeping with her. She seems to be a woman he can be with-but he gets angry when she starts becoming anxious and put off about his weird ramblings. He ends up violently killing her and is sent to jail and ends up with a big African American roommate who has designs on him. In the end, it seems as if being in the jail is where he was meant to be.
EDMOND is a truly depressing film viewing experience written by David Mamet.
