Greetings fellow fiends! It's your good Doktor here to discuss Sam Raimi's rehash of the Evil Dead called Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn in yawning bluray power! I say yawning because well folks this is yet another way for good old Sam to milk his cash cow Ash Williams!
Yes Ash gets his Chainsaw on (literally), yes the effects are cooler, and yes they have a hot as hell redneck girl in this one, but let's face it fiends. This is no sequel, but a rehash/remake with a bigger budget. My man Bruce is as always dead on (pardon the pun) as the Buster Keaton/Charlie Chaplin of the horror genre. The Candarian demons are awesome, and the ending is different from the first throwing in a science fiction time vortex, making this film an insane cluster-fudge. But you know what, I still love it. What the hell, Ash kicks ass like Charles Bronson, and Rambo combined. Indy Jones would soil himself in that cellar! And so would I probably. Its good old fashioned kick ass action with slapstick humor thrown in for good measure. Is it scary? Hell no. But it is a kick ass good time, and should not be missed. Now to Blu-Ray business.

Anchor Bay, what the hell were you thinking here? This Blu-Ray release is NO better than the DVD release. NO better. The Blacks are dull and grainy, the colors so-so. This was an attempt to grab a few extra bucks from the Blu-Ray crowd. And we are not amused. In fact I demand you put some REAL work into this horror classic. As far as High Def quality, I give it the finger!
In fact my DVD copy looks better unconverted than the blu ray release.

The audio was dull, and the rear channels barely made out a whimper in some of the more action packed scene. Anchor Bay titles are usually SO much better than this. If the person in charge of this (snicker) "restoration" would like to explain why this blu ray master was this poor, please write me via the site. Ugh what a bonehead move. Try to do better next time. Fiends out there, STICK WITH YOUR OLD DVD COPY.
