A woman reporter receives a tape in the mail of a girl being gruesomely tortured to death. Curious, she goes to investigate. Along for the ride are her production people. She finds the location, an abandoned building that used to be an army base, and soon strange things start to happen. And her friends are killed off one by one in horrible ways. Trapped, unable to leave the building, she has to figure out what's going on. She meets a mysterious man, who at first seems to be her benefactor, but it turns out that he's the killer. Or at least a part of him is. An entity, who he calls his brother, lives inside of him-and this fetus-creature is evil. It refers to the woman reporter as 'mother', for a reason we don't find out until the end. The man wants his torture to end and tries to kill himself, and the monster, but it doesn't work out. And when she sets him on fire the creature reanimates the body so that this burnt out zombie is trying to kill her. She ultimately escapes but she has unwittingly taken someTHING with her... This is a good horror movie. Lots of suspense, creepy characters, over-the-top gore and a unique monster. In terms of tone, music and pacing this really reminded me of a Lucio Fulci movie, only with Japanese people.
