In the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago a serial killer is enthusiastically doing his job. A newspaper photographer, as she investigates the murders, discovers that there may be a connection to American's first serial-killer, Herman Webster Mudgett Jr. After he was killed in the late 1800's he was buried face-down, towards hell. The new slayings hit close to home because the photographer's mother was killed twenty years before my another serial killer, who turns out to be the grandson of Mudgett. Is serial-killing in the blood or is there a more supernatural cause?Nearly the entire cast is African-American, except for a few white people who all turn out to be evil (a subtle message?).Although the acting is uneven, THE EVIL ONE is a well-written and directed independent horror film that achieves a decent level of creepiness. One of the better recent horror movies released by Maverick Entertainment (www.maverickentertainment.cc). Directed by Parris Reaves.
