Twenty-four men volunteer for a psychological experiment for which they'll be paid $1,000 a day, for fourteen days. They are taken by bus to an isolated facility and some are chosen as "prisoners" and others as "guards", based on their profiles. They are all assured that they'll be constantly monitored and if anyone gets harmed that they'll send the experiment. The main characters, Travis (Adrien Brody of KING KONG, PREDATORS, SPLICE) and Barris (Forest Whitaker of the most recent TWILIGHT ZONE series) are at odds with one another. Travis is a peaceful guy and says he'll never hurt anyone. Barris is a repressed sad sack who still lives with his mother, though he's in his forties. However, as things escalate and Barris begins to take his appointment as a guard as a power trip he singles Travis out and constantly punishes the guy in humiliating ways. While some of the other "guards" complain, they nevertheless follow the mentally unstable leader. Eventually it escalates into a full blown prison riot after one of the prisoners is killed.
This is one of those movies that makes you cringe in its depiction of "real life" horror.
The movie also features Cam Gigandet (TWILIGHT) and Maggie Grace (LOST, THE FOG remake). Highly recommended.
