This Alex Winter movie is extremely different than his hyper-kinetic FREAKED. Henry Thomas (ET) is a starving artist living in a dumpy apartment building in New York City. He doesn't like his art teaching job and is at odds with his rich family because he holds his father responsible for his mother's overdose suicide. One day he witnesses a verbal fight between the landlord and a drunk he's evicting from an apartment. Later, the landlord is stabbed to death and the police hunt down the obvious culprit. But there's a strange new tenant that lives in an upstairs apartment who may be responsible. Thomas starts getting a fever and as the movie progresses we're not sure if events are really happening or if he's hallucinating. FEVER reminded me of Polanksi's THE TENANT and succeeds as being a creepy, downbeat mystery about a killer.
