Takes place in a mythical kingdom in which a fire-breathing dragon attacks after a twenty year disappearance of the beasts. King Augustin (Arnold Vosloo) has a princess daughter, Luisa (Amy Acker of DOLLHOUSE), who likes to practice with weapons. She's in the nearby town when the Fire Dragon attacks. The effects are impressive and it's a unique depiction of the mythical beast. Rather than the type seen in HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON or AGE OF THE DRAGONS, it looks like a giant burning manta-ray. After it nearly destroys the village she goes on a quest--and gets the help of
Sangimel (John Rhys-Davies of LORD OF THE RINGS, SLIDERS). He says in order to defeat the Fire Dragon they need to bring forth and ICE DRAGON, which they do.
This is a decent budget period fantasy with some great effects. However, I'm a bit tired of seeing all these new dragon movies. Are dragons the new zombies?
