The only familiar face from the original movie starring Rick Springfield is John Kapelos as Don Schanke, Knight's a-hole partner, who becomes more of a buffoon as the show progresses. Geraint Wyn-Davies takes over as Nicholas Knight, an eight-hundred year old vampire who is trying to redeem himself by helping humanity - and who is trying to become human again. Instead of a male coroner, this time it's a woman, Dr. Lambert (Catherine Disher) who is also sexually interested in Knight. The first several episodes re-does the NICK NIGHT movie, ending with the death of Lacroix (Nigel Bennett). For the rest of the season the 'villain' seen in the numerous flashbacks. There's also the woman vampire, Janette, who was also created by Lacroix, who runs a local bar/dance club called THE RAVEN. Nick frequently goes there and seems to be close to Janette, as they are always kissing. Their relationship, other than both being created by Lacroix, is explained in season two.
In one episode Kelly Preston (PIN) portrays a film-nourish killer and in another a young Carrie Anne Moss is a murderer. Despite the cheapness of the sets and the low-production values (in fact, a lot of it looks as if it was shot on video and 'filmlooked') it's still a good show, the precursor to ANGEL and MOONLIGHT.
