I absolutely hated this FRIDAY THE 13th movie when it first came out, primarily because it was such a disappointment after PART VI, which I think is one of the best FRIDAY films in the series. In that movie Jason was brought back to life by a lightning bolt-and as an undead zombie is truly an unstoppable killing machine. They only way they defeat him is tying a chain around him, attached to a large rock, and sinking him to the bottom of Crystal Lake.
In PART VII we're introduced to a young woman (Lar Park Lincoln) who has telekinetic powers, able to move objects with her mind. She's suffering from guilt after accidently killing her father when she was ten years old-and now eight years later her psychiatrist thinks it would be a good thing for her to face her fears and spend time at the very same place where that incident happened-in a cabin on the shores of Crystal Lake. But the doctor does not want to help her-he wants to increase her powers by keeping her stressed out. There's also a house next door filled with a bunch of college-aged people who are basically fodder for Jason.
The special effects/makeup of Jason is great-through his ripped clothes you can see his rotted looking spinal cord-and when his hockey mask is ripped off you see the decomposed face underneath. He's truly ferocious looking.
As for the story, I can see the reasoning of having an undead Jason pitted against another supernatural being, sort of a precursor to FREDDY VS. JASON, which wasn't that great either.
