"Fright" is a very solid British stalked-babysitter-in-danger flick starring the luscious Susan George in all of her 70s prime. She's a well mannered college girl hired to care for a three year old child while the parents have a quiet night out. It is soon openly revealed that the mother is actually on a date with a guy while her husband is locked up for having tried to strangle her... The sitter's night doesn't end up going as smoothly as she expected when she soon begins seeing a mans face peering in the window and door knobs rattling. Seems like hubby's out of the nut house and is looking to regain access to his old life and family...
This one starts off as a creepy girl-in-peril home invasion type of premise, but soon explodes into a surprisingly strong and depressing depiction of raving madness during the second half. Definitely absconding from the "Halloween" forerunner route it flirted with earlier on. Ian Bannen dishes out a powerful performance as the enraged maniac whose melt down is as subtly disturbing as it is viciously unmitigated. He arms himself with a huge glass shard and occasionally barks like a dog when irritated or threatened.
Those interested in a creepy proto-slasher are advised to check out "Fright".
