Gamera always seem to be more of a kid friendly monster and was indeed dubbed the protector of the children in his early films. Some thought the monster a bit silly, but I liked the idea of a big ass jet propelled spinning turtle. I'm not going to ask where the gas comes from to make Gamera fly. Gamera's return to the world of Japanese monster movies was very impressive to say the least! I was shocked the 1st time I saw this at how good it was. It was on par with the new Godzilla flicks that had come out at the time and had it's own special charm that only a turtle can have. The FX were jaw dropping compared to Gamera's old films. Those fireball attacks were outstanding! It was strange how good the plot for this thing was. The way the monster was revitalized and brought back pleased me to no end. Hell, I even took time to read the subtitles. Gamera's archenemy Ghaos was given an excellent make over as well. The battle scenes have to be scene to be believed. Simply an amazing effort when compared to the past movies (which were cool in a campy way). If you're a Godzilla fan or giant monster buff you already know what this film achieved. Everyone else needs to know now, so check it out.
