In the suburbs, lightning strikes an old tree and reveals a gaping hole beneath. It's covered with dirt and sod, but reappears the next day. Glen (a young Stephen Dorff of Fear.com) and his two friends soon discover it's a gateway to Hell. One of his friends, Terry, messes with the lyrics of a slain Heavy Metal Band, which makes things even worse. These little, evil looking demons, up there with the creatures from DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, start causing havoc. Things get out of hand when Glen's parents go on a trip, leaving him with his older sister, who throws a party with her friends. They are mostly a bunch of assholes.
The movie is obviously influenced by POLTERGEIST (1982), though has enough differences to make it interesting. The stop-motion animation, particularly the big monster that shows up at the end, is great.
