This newest Godzilla movie is a direct sequel to the first one (as was Godzilla 1985 and Godzilla 2000) and ignores all the previous Godzilla movies. The Godzilla portrayed here is ferocious looking, with white eyes and a snarling mouth. Rather than being a creation of the miss-use of nuclear power, he is the embodiment of all the soldiers killed in the Pacific during WWII. He's a pissed off force of destruction. And as soon as Godzilla reappears other monsters start appearing as well to do battle with him. First is Baragon, then Mothra and finally King Ghidorah. They're all very different than their original incarnations from the 60's. In fact, they're the protectors of Japan. While all this monster fighting is going on, though, hundreds of innocent people get trampled. I've never seen so many people die in a Godzilla movie before! Although I wouldn't say this is the best Godzilla film it does restore his monsterhood and the story is pretty interesting.
